According to the reports, Wahlberg, who grew up in a rough area of Boston and ended up in jail after turning to crime and drugs in his teen years, has said he thinks his childhood friends will think less of him for showing his sensitive side in the roles. He adds, "I am a bit self-conscious. I grew up in a tough neighborhood and it's cool if you're playing a tough guy, but playing the vulnerable guy, the p**sy, the guy who doesn't win and who doesn't get the girl, that is always in the back of my mind as a potential concern.
