Jewel, Sapphire, The Others, Train, 311, Gaspar Noé Photo - The wristwatch has been transformed and it's expensive! High-end watch manufacturer MB&F has now launched the unusual, jet-engine inspired HM4 Thunderbolt featuring an impressive price of $158,000. Far from the traditional wristwatch, the HM4 Thunderbolt (or Horological Machine No 4 Thunderbolt) features two dials mounted on two jet engine-shaped sections of the case, one telling time and the other indicating the power reserve. The striking sapphire section of the case which reveals the intricate and vibrant micro-mechanics within, requires over 100 hours of machining and polishing to become an exquisitely curved panel and every component and form has a technical purpose. Each HM4 Thunderbolt also includes 50 jewels and 311 engine components, four other sapphire crystals and a hand-stitched black calfskin strap with a titanium and white gold clasp. The watch's power comes from two mainspring barrels in the movement that, together, store up to 72 hours of power which they transfer to the indication pods via vertical gear trains. The unique, sleek and aerodynamic design took three years to complete and is based upon designer Maximilian Bsser's childhood love of assembling model airplane kits. The HM4 Thunderbolt truly blends design, aviation and time with poetic harmony. Miami, FL. 9/29/10.
