The event aimed to break the Guinness World Records title for Largest Gathering of Superheroes in celebration of the release of Ferrell and DreamWorks' new animation "Megamind" co-starring Brad Pitt and Tina Fey. A minimum of 1501 superheroes were needed in order to break the record which DreamWorks Animation did with flying colors, as Ferrell later posed with the new Guinness World Records certificate.
