View All Images- Bedford, U.K. Michelangelo's famous Libyan Sibyl, usually seen in the Vatican's Sistine Chapel, now has a rather large copy - on the side of a Coffee Shop in Bedford. Kevin Kavanagh, owner of 'Frescoes' in the town's Mill Street commissioned local artist Iain Carstairs to create the 115 sq ft fresco of the iconic 16th century artwork, which has cost around 30,000 to complete. Iain took two months to complete the stunning mural, which he painted from scaffolding surrounding the cafe. The mural was unveiled just before Christmas and is a way of bringing some Italian culture to the town which has one of the largest populations of people with Italian descent in the UK. The Libyan Sibyl is one of the 12 prophetic figures from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and depicts the priestess Phemonoe presiding over the Zeus Ammon Oracle. 2nd January 2013.
