Sounds Photo - May 14, 2011 - San Antonio, Texas, USA - Conjunto legend Linda Escobar,51, who's been performing onstage since age 7, headlines at the 30th annual Tejano Conjunto Festival. Conjunto music began more than 100 years ago when Mexican musicians living in south Texas adopted the lively, three-button accordion from German settlers, combined it with the Spanish 12-string bass guitar, the bajo sexto, and wedded European rhythms such as polkas and waltzes to indigenous Mexican musical forms. In the 1940's, the Conjunto sound was influenced by American big band music, and a new sound was born and christened Orchesta Tejana (now 'Tejano'), a highly danceable music which featured saxophones, horns and pianos.(Credit Image: Brian Cahn/ZUMAPRESS.com)
