BUILDING COLLAPSE, Bruce Ratner Photo - NEW YORK, JULY 14, 2005 A building construction site on 100th Street and Broadway collapsed this morning bringing up a serious questions concerning the circumstances of the collapse. The building owned by Extell has recently had protests from a community concerned about the companies high rise developments. On a nearby construction site owned by Extell, graffiti says no to 'Yuppie Condos.' Oddly this is in the middle of a bid war between Bruce Ratner and The Extell Development Company concerning the Nets arena and skyscraper complex proposed for the Atlantic Railyards. In an odd twist, Extell has actually tried to oppose Bruce Ratners extravagant plans by going to community leaders and offering a smaller plan that removes the displacement fears of residents in that neighborhood. The collapse of the building on 100th Street and Broadway is currently being searched by the NYPD and the NYFD in an attempt to find anyone who may have been trapped underneath the debris. The toll of casualties is incomplete.
