- Pictured here is animal rights activist and actress Pamela Anderson in her most recent PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) ad promoting vegetarianism, which seems to have caused a bit of controversy in her native country. Anderson, who was born in British Columbia, was reportedly denied a permit to enter Old Montreal's Place Jacques-Cartier in front of City Hall where she was suppose to unveil the new advertisement today as part of a Just For Laughs news conference. A representative for the Montreal Film and TV Commission wrote in an e-mail to PETA, 'As you might expect...we as public officials representing a municipal government, cannot endorse this image of Ms Anderson. It is not so much controversial as it goes against all principles public organizations are fighting for in the everlasting battle of equality between men and women.' Anderson, who is set to host a gala tonight for the city's renowned comedy festival, later unveiled the sexy ad at Restaurant Globe. The blonde bombshell was quoted as saying, 'In a city that is known for its exotic dancing and for being progressive and edgy, how sad that a woman would be banned from using her own body in a political protest over the suffering of cows and chickens. In some parts of the world, women are forced to cover their whole bodies with burqas - is that next? I didn't think that Canada would be so puritanical.' 07/15/10.
