It’s a common assumption that all rappers come from bad homes and that they were surrounded by drugs and horrible images their entire childhood. But that just isn’t true, especially when you look at the life that Dwayne Carter Jr. had. You may not recognize the name Dwayne Carter, but you will recognize the name Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne was born Dwayne in New Orleans, Louisiana. His mother, a chef, had him when she was only 19, but that didn’t stop his genius from showing up.


At a very young age Lil Wayne was put into a gifted program in his high school, and he then went on to join the drama club as well. By the age of eight he was writing rap and shortly after he managed to land a spot with Cash Money Records. He was becoming so well known that by the age of fourteen he dropped out of school in order to focus on his music career. What you may think about when you look at Lil Wayne photos, however, is to wonder where the scar is from his shooting. When he was only thirteen years old he accidentally shot himself in the chest, the bullet missing his heart by mere inches. Look closely enough at his photos and you can see a slight scar on his chest.


When you look at Lil Wayne photos you’ll find pictures of a stereotypical rapper – filled with tattoos, wearing shades and always wearing accessories to the nines. It’s hard to realize that this well-known rapper was once born to a young chef and spent much of his childhood in a gifted program. But maybe that’s why he’s been able to become so famous so quickly, and why he always comes across as intelligent in his interviews.
